Buller REAP was formed in 1981, and through the 1980’s worked closely with the school sector. It operated under the administration of the Department of Education, overseen by a Community Education Organiser. 1985 saw a change in premises, when REAP began its association with the Peel Street REAP house. Over the next ten years Buller REAP slowly expanded its services to the community. Parent education programmed became part of community education and the local resources that were developed became the ‘Bag of Tricks’ parenting programme; which is the basis of our current parenting programmes. Programmes for youth and lately the elderly have become core parts of Buller REAP’s delivery to the community, providing support and advocacy opportunities and filling gaps not being able to be met by ; the Older and Bolder activities group was formed in 1991. By the year 2000 Buller REAP had developed into an organisation with close to twenty staff both full and part-time, working in and with communities throughout the Buller. A feature of this time was the development of the After School Programme in Westport. 2003 saw Buller REAP move to the new REAP Centre in Palmerston Street, downtown Westport. The REAP Centre has a meeting / Seminar Room. A casual resource area and space to meet the demands of our population in the new millennium. |
