The Westport Older & Bolder is a programme designed for the 60 plus active more mobile aged group with the emphasis on education through the participation of coach tours, art & craft days and other activities. There is a small membership fee. Each month a coach tour is arranged leaving from the REAP building at 9am and returning around 4.30pm. We visit places of interest from Karamea in the North to Ross in the South. There is a cost attached to these tours. Every second year we plan an away tour usually a of a four to five day duration. This can be either in the North or South Island. This is hugely popular as it means that every thing is taken care of for the members. They just sit back and enjoy the tour. Once a year we have a luncheon where everyone brings along a plate of finger food to share. This is a great opportunity for the members to socialize with other members of the group. We also have 2 planning days a year and this is where the members put forward their suggestions of what they would like to do on the activity/information days, and also where they would like to go on the day tours and what they would like to see. One of the aims of the group is to keep the members informed about the changes that occur that will effect their life styles. We hold information days and invite people from such places as Work and Income, Police Transport etc to talk to the group to keep them up to date with any changes. Once a year we hold a Safe with Age theory course which is given by a qualified Instructor. This enables the members to receive up to date information on new and altered road rules and to refresh their knowledge on the road code. We have a substantial and very supportive membership.
